ANOLE MATING IN EARLY JUNE 2012

Anole lizards mating in early June of 2012

The anole lizards are seen here on June 7, 2012, mating for what seemed like a very long time. Just as quickly, the anoles finished their interlocking and separated and went in different directions.

ANOLE CAMOUFLAGE

...Right after he leapt from bannister

LEAPING LIZARD CAFE

MAY 6, 2012......This anole was resting on the bannister at The Leaping Lizard Cafe until he saw me and leapt onto the nandina nearby. He seems to be well camouflaged and doesn't move, probably assuming I can't see him. Actually. I think the anoles are accustomed to me and usually will go about their activity, undisturbed by my presence. This particular time placed him closer than usual to me, so he reacted to be sure of his safety.

ANOLE IN MONTH OF MAY

It is May 5, 2012 at the outdoor Leaping Lizard Cafe...

Unusual sight to see tail straight upward

in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains. Today, an anole dressed in its bright green suit seemed in fine fiddle as it watched the world around it. I noticed its tail up in the air, which wasn't observed by me before today and I wondered what this indicated, if anything.

LEAPING LIZARD CAFE

Join me on the Blog porch at Leaping Lizard Cafe.

It's an early spring in the foothills of North Georgia. Anoles are busy courting, mating and munching bugs. The anole is closely related to the iguana and has the ability to change the color of its skin from green to brown shades. I am interested in sharing the anole's appearance, habits and sometimes surprising characteristics.

All photographs were taken from mid-March to mid-April of 2012.

Anole is closely related to iguana, which shows in this photo.

The male's dewlap consists of erectile cartilage that extends from neck and throat. When the males go courting, they bob their heads and display their dewlaps. Breeding can last for several months, starting in Spring.

The Green Anole female displays her pale dorsal stripe.
The mating game.....
...Must  be looking for its next meal.
His lunch seems as big as he is....

Here are some candid photographs of anoles going about their day.

Anoles like their high spots.

...Looking a bit regal there.

He must see someone he knows.

This anole looks like he's posing...

Guess he's able to catch bugs and display dewlap at the same time..

This looks like a cozy lookout spot.

May all your trails be  happy trails...
